If you spend five minutes on Pinterest, you’ll find wedding photography checklists that are three pages long, including things like “a photo of the shoes on the grass.”
After 1,500+ weddings across Cheshire and Manchester, I can tell you the truth: You don’t need a three-page list. You need a photographer who knows which moments are going to matter to you in twenty years’ time.
Here is my “No-Nonsense” checklist for a perfect wedding gallery.
1. The Morning Story (Preparation)
It isn’t just about the dress hanging up. It’s about the atmosphere.
The Details: Dress, shoes, flowers, and rings (the “heirlooms”).
The Emotion: The “Dad reveal,” the first time the bridesmaids see you, and those quiet nervous moments with a glass of prosecco.
2. The Ceremony (The “Big Ones”)
This is where the documentary style really shines.
The Walk: The expression of the person waiting at the end of the aisle.
The Vows: The glances, the laughter, and the “I do.”
The Exit: That burst of joy as you walk out as a married couple (and the confetti shot!).
3. The Family Formals (The “Efficiency” List)
Family shots are the only part of the day that can feel like a chore. My secret? Keep it to a core list of 8–15 groups. This ensures your Great-Aunt is happy, but you get back to your drinks reception within as soon as possible.
4. The Reception & Party
The Room: All the hard work you put into the table settings and decor before the guests sit down.
The Speeches: This is where I capture the best candid laughter and the “ugly-cry” moments.
The Dance Floor: Once the party starts, the best shots are the ones you didn’t know were being taken.
5. The “Twilight” Portraits
We don’t need two hours away from your guests. We need 15 minutes as the sun starts to drop over your venue (whether it’s Sandhole Oak Barn or The Oak Tree of Peover). This is when we get those “magazine-cover” shots.
Why a Checklist isn’t Enough
A checklist is just a list of ingredients; you still need a chef who knows how to cook. Because I work in a Hybrid Style, my checklist also includes audio and movement. I’m not just checking off “The Kiss”; I’m ensuring I have the sound of your guests cheering in your highlight film.
And the best part of my checklist? The final item is: “Delivery within 3-5 days.“ Because the most important moment in any checklist is the moment you actually get to see your photos
