Magical Winter Wedding Photography at Eaves Hall | Maria & Jonny

There is a specific kind of silence that falls over the Ribble Valley in winter. It’s crisp, dramatic, and creates the most incredible backdrop for photography. When Maria and Jonny booked me for their Eaves Hall wedding photography, they didn’t just accept the season—they embraced it.

As a Lancashire wedding photographer, I have seen Eaves Hall in every weather condition imaginable, but there is something undeniably romantic about this Georgian mansion when the temperature drops and the open fires are lit. This wasn’t just a wedding; it was a cozy, luxury house party wrapped in winter magic.

The Venue: Why Eaves Hall Shines in Winter

Located in Clitheroe, surrounded by the rolling hills of the Lancashire countryside, Eaves Hall is one of those exclusive-use venues that feels grand but intimate. For Maria and Jonny, the choice was obvious. They wanted a venue where their guests could escape the cold and step into a world of warm candlelight, rich decor, and flowing champagne.

From a photography perspective, the interiors here are a dream. The grand staircase, the chandeliers, and the period features mean that even if it rains (or snows!), we are never short of locations for stunning portraits.

The Ceremony

Intimacy was the theme of the day. The ceremony room at Eaves Hall was bathed in natural light, contrasting beautifully with the winter afternoon outside. Capturing Jonny’s reaction as Maria walked down the aisle was a highlight—pure emotion, unscripted and real.

Portraits: Braving the Chill

One of the biggest questions I get asked about winter weddings is: “What about the couple portraits?”

Maria and Jonny were absolute troopers. We stepped out onto the terrace to catch the golden hour before the sun dipped behind the Ribble Valley hills. We utilized the iconic balcony for that sweeping landscape shot—Maria and Jonny sharing a quiet moment overlooking the countryside. It’s these dramatic, scenic shots that make Eaves Hall such a sought-after venue.

We also got creative indoors. I love using the architecture of the venue to frame the couple. We captured a stunning reflection shot in the large gold mirror on the middle of the grand staircase—a creative angle that adds a touch of artistic flair to the gallery.

The Party & The Sparklers

You can’t have a winter wedding without sparklers! As night fell, we gathered everyone outside. The contrast of the bright sparklers against the dark blue twilight sky was electric. It was the perfect transition from the formal part of the day into the evening celebrations.

Speaking of celebrations, we managed to organize the entire wedding party onto the terrace for a heart-shaped group photo—taken from the balcony above. It’s a fun, high-energy shot that really shows off the scale of the celebration.
