There is a specific kind of charm that you only find in the Ribble Valley.
It’s historic, green, and full of character. When Lucy and Lewis booked me for their Stirk House wedding photography & Hiighlight Video, they didn’t want a stiff, formal production. They wanted a celebration that felt like a relaxed party with their closest friends—and that is exactly what they got.
As a wedding photographer in the ribble valley, I love working at Stirk House. Whether it’s the dramatic ivy-clad walls outside or the warmth of the stone fireplace inside, it’s a venue that invites you to just relax and enjoy the moment.
Why Stirk House?
Hidden away in Gisburn, Stirk House offers the perfect balance of grandeur and intimacy. For Lucy and Lewis, the choice was simple. They wanted a venue that could handle a big celebration but still feel cozy and welcoming.
From a photography perspective, the grounds are a dream. We have 22 acres of woodland and gardens to play with, meaning we never have to go far to find a stunning backdrop. The famous ivy wall changes colour with the seasons, providing a natural, living background that you just can’t replicate in a studio.
The Ceremony: A Church Beginning
Before heading to the venue, the day began with a traditional church ceremony nearby. There is something incredibly special about capturing the “Confetti Exit” at a church gate—the joy on Lucy and Lewis’s faces as they walked out into a cloud of petals was one of the highlights of the day.
After the ceremony, we headed straight to Stirk House for the reception. The drive through the Ribble Valley gave the couple a chance to catch their breath before the party really started.
Portraits: Relaxed & Unposed
One of the biggest worries couples have is: “Will we be away from our guests for hours taking photos?” My answer is always no.
Lucy and Lewis were absolute naturals. We stepped out onto the decking for ten minutes to catch some portraits against the woodland backdrop. We captured a romantic “dip kiss” moment and took a stroll by the ancient tree, but mostly, we just let them chat and laugh. It’s these unscripted interactions that make the best photos, not the ones where I tell you where to put your hands.
Hybrid Coverage: Capturing the Energy
Lucy and Lewis opted for my Hybrid or Highlight Video Package (Photography + Highlight Video), which was the perfect choice for their high-energy reception.
While photos capture the look of a moment, video captures the sound and the vibe. From the speeches to the evening party, being able to switch between stills and motion meant I could build a complete story of their day.
The Party: Neon Signs & Cowboy Hats
You can’t have a legendary wedding party without a few props! As the sun went down, the energy went up. The “Happily Ever After” neon sign became the centerpiece of the evening, with guests grabbing cowboy hats and sunglasses for some hilarious candid shots.
The dancefloor was packed, and the atmosphere was electric. It was the perfect end to a laid-back, fun-filled day in Lancashire.
